Join us for a programme of exceptional short films curated by actress and writer Sarah Agha, exploring stories of migration and refugee narratives.

The Arab Film Club returns to the Southbank Centre this June for a special screening for Refugee Week, which this year has the central theme of 'Home'.

Each title has been written and directed by a refugee filmmaker or draws on real life experience. These films demonstrate the power of cinema to humanise struggle and injustice through art.

The screening is followed by a Q&A hosted by Sarah Agha with the filmmakers on stage.

Programme
An Orange from Jaffa by Mohammed Almughanni (Palestine, 26 minutes) Mohammed is desperately looking for a taxi to take him through an Israeli checkpoint. But when the driver discovers that Mohammed has already failed to cross the checkpoint, trouble begins.

Beneath a Mother's Feet by Elias Suhail (Morocco, 15 minutes) A single mother in Morocco, trapped in a mundane existence, confronts her dreams and fears, leading to the agonising decision to forsake all she knows, even her children.

Al Sit by Suzannah Mirghani (Sudan, 20 minutes) In a cotton-farming village in Sudan, 15 year old Nafisa has a crush on Babiker but her parents have arranged her marriage to Nadir. Al-Sit, the powerful village matriarch, has her own plans for Nafisa's future. Can Nafisa choose for herself?

This event is part of our Refugee Week programme, and our summer season You Belong Here, which explores how we create and foster a sense of belonging in our communities and with our audiences so that everyone feels like Southbank Centre is a home away from home.
