Squire & Partners: Winter Windows
A Brixton festive tradition comes to the Southbank Centre for the first time
See a brand new installation, created by local schoolchildren in collaboration with the architects Squire & Partners.
For the past six years, its designers and model makers have teamed up with school-aged children from Lambeth for the annual Winter Windows challenge to design neon lights to be displayed in the windows of Squire & Partners’ offices at The Department Store in Brixton – with brilliant results.
So this year, for our 2023/24 Winter Light exhibition, the Southbank Centre has commissioned Squire & Partners to create a Winter Windows installation for the Queen Elizabeth Hall as well.
Now you can see the results, as the ideas and drawings produced by Year 6 students from the Oasis Academy Johanna in Waterloo during two workshops have been transformed by the Squire & Partners modelshop team into this bespoke light installation.
At the same time, Loughborough Primary School has created the designs for The Department Store’s annual display, creating a connection between these Lambeth Borough sites and schools, and illuminating the South Bank and Brixton over the winter months.
13 Nov 2023 – 11 Feb 2024
4pm – 11pm daily
The installation is turned off temporarily on Mon 29 and Tue 30 Jan 2024.
