The Bitten Peach is the UK’s first queer Pan-Asian cabaret production company.

Established in 2019 The Bitten Peach’s mission is to empower the queer Asian community through our shows, events and collaborations, and in their four years they’ve already made remarkable strides. Inspired by the Asian cabaret artists who paved the way for them, performers like Fanny Chance, The Bitten Peach have worked with over 70 performers of Asian descent spanning a variety of cabaret art forms, including drag, burlesque, dance, comedy, music, spoken word and circus.

Their many performances in that time have included a previous appearance here on our Riverside Terrace back in the summer of 2021, and hosting Rina Sawayama's album launch party in 2022 where they got to introduce a massive crowd of pop fans to their world of queer Asian excellence.

‘Performing outside at the Southbank Centre is always the most wonderful atmosphere.’

You’ll be able to relive some of that Rina Sawayama inspired frivolity at Christine and the Queens’ Meltdown as The Bitten Peach told us ‘We’’ll be performing our Rina Sawayama medley, which will feature all of the day's performers in a non-stop Asian pop megamix!’. Now that’s a finale not to be missed!

But what The Bitten Peach do and stand for runs deeper than pop megamixes, and as they explained ahead of the festival, being part of this year’s Meltdown is a big deal to them. ‘As a gender diverse collective championing trans artists, we are so thrilled to be included in this year's Meltdown curated by a trans artist and featuring such a vibrantly diverse line-up. We’re thrilled to bring our unique queer Asian flavour to the iconic Southbank Centre!’ And just as we were thinking we couldn’t love The Bitten Peach any more. You heard them, iconic. Their words not ours.

‘Performing outside at the Southbank is always the most wonderful atmosphere. It's the perfect opportunity for us to invite our families, both biological and chosen, to enjoy a day of dancing in the sunshine’.
