Kudzanai-Violet Hwami is a Zimbabwean painter, currently based in London.

Her first solo institutional exhibition was held at Gasworks, London, in 2019 and she has three works in the current Hayward Gallery exhibition Mixing It Up: Painting Today; Bira (2019), Family Portrait (2017) and A theory on Adam (2020).

In this video Hwami explains how her own life experience of moving from country to country (she moved from Zimbabwe to South Africa at the age of nine), has influenced the way she approaches her work. The artist also explains why she prefers to work on a larger scale with her paintings.
