The back cover of Alex Ross' book The Rest Is Noise describes the book as 'The history of the twentieth century as heard through its music, from The Rite of Spring to the Velvet Underground.' Lots of people might be interested in reading The Rest Is Noise but perhaps feel a little daunted at the prospect of 600 pages, including me (Vanity Fair took me a good year to read). Do not fear though - HarperCollins have split The Rest Is Noise into handy chapters so that you can dip in and read one or two, or maybe the whole lot! These chapters are available on iTunes (as an iBook) and Amazon Kindle, for just 99p: The Rest Is Noise Series: Doctor Faust: Schoenberg, Debussy, and Atonality Kindle iTunes The Rest Is Noise Series: Dance of the Earth: The Rite, the Folk, le Jazz Kindle iTunes The Rest Is Noise Series: Apparition from the Woods: The Loneliness of Jean Sibelius (Time for a Rhyme) Kindle iTunes The Rest Is Noise Series: Invisible Men: American Composers from Ives to Ellington Kindle iTunes The Rest Is Noise Series: The Golden Age: Strauss, Mahler, and the Fin de Siecle Kindle iTunes Gemma Smyth - New Media Assistant
