Portrait of Poet, TS Eliot
Herbert Vandyk

In a broadcast event, hear the ten poets shortlisted for the TS Eliot Prize read from their work.

Hosted by poet and broadcaster Ian McMillan, this is the first major highlight of the 2021 literary calendar.

The shortlisted poets are Natalie Diaz, Sasha Dugdale, Ella Frears, Will Harris, Wayne Holloway-Smith, Bhanu Kapil, Daisy Lafarge, Glyn Maxwell, Shane McCrae and JO Morgan.

After the readings, the chair of the judges announces the winner.

The TS Eliot Prize has been described by former Poet Laureate Sir Andrew Motion as the prize most poets want to win.

It is judged by a panel of established poets. This year, they are Lavinia Greenlaw (chair), Mona Arshi and Andrew McMillan.

The prize began in 1993 to celebrate the Poetry Book Society’s 40th birthday and to honour its founding poet. It is now awarded by the TS Eliot Foundation.

This event is pre-recorded exclusively for the Southbank Centre.
