George Shaw grew up on a post-war council estate on the edge of Coventry; this estate and the woods that lie just beyond it have been the main subjects of his paintings for the past 20 years.
Shaw was Associate Artist at the National Gallery, London, from 2014 to 2016, culminating in a solo exhibition, My Back to Nature, which also toured around the UK. Shaw was nominated for the Turner Prize in 2011.
