futuretense: Ego Ella May

Part of futuretense

‘The root of it all is jazz,’ says the south London songwriter and vocalist whose tender neo-soul music comes from the heart.

Presented in partnership with BBC Music Introducing.

Ego Ella May’s deep passion and respect for jazz is channelled into contemporary compositions that have received glowing reviews across the board.

Her songwriting takes influence from both reflective moments of solitude and intimate conversations with friends, revealing her vulnerabilities through her music.

Ego Ella May has worked with Oscar Jerome, Joe Armon-Jones (Ezra Collective), Wu-Lu and Eddie
Hick (Sons of Kemet).

May released an anthology, So Far in September 2019, and shortly after released her most recent single from her forthcoming debut LP, ‘Girls Don’t Always Sing About Boys’.
