Cerrie Burnell & Friends: A Story of Your Own

Part of Imagine Children's Festival

Wonderful things can happen when you find yourself in the story – children's authors Cerrie Burnell, Katie Tsang, Aisha Bushby and Sharna Jackson explore how.

They talk about their work, their favourite children’s books growing up, their favourite biscuits (extremely important for authors) and why representing all children in books is so important to them.

The panel discuss how they became authors, give advice for those thinking of writing a children’s book and answer questions from the audience.

Each author also performs a short reading.

Cerrie Burnell is a former CBeebies presenter and the current BookTrust Writer in Residence. She works with a number of charitable organisations linked to childhood and diversity, subjects Burnell is passionate about.

Katie Tsang co-writes the young fiction series Sam Wu Is Not Afraid and the upcoming series Dragon Mountain with her husband Kevin, and also writes YA as Katherine Webber.

Aisha Bushby writes children's books, sometimes with a little bit of magic in them. She loves cats, gloomy days, and animated films. Her debut middle grade novel, A Pocketful of Stars, was published by Egmont in August 2019.

Sharna Jackson is the author of High Rise Mystery and London/Londoff – a book she created with 36 schools and Southbank Centre.
