The electro-pop artist brings nostalgic vocals and bewitching musical landscapes to Purcell Room after wowing the audience at a Friday Tonic appearance earlier this year.
With influences including Jefferson Airplane, the Beach Boys, Françoise Hardy, Broadcast and Stereolab, Pi Ja Ma’s songs are evolving fantasies and nostalgic daydreams that encourage the listener to step back in time to the 1960s.
Her music is composed and produced by multi-instrumentalist Axel Concato, and she is joined by Clémence Lasme on bass and Carol Teillard d’Eyry on drums.
Their debut album, Nice To Meet U, is a flurry of indie pop, alt-rock and electro-pop with a 1960s spin.
Bold but breezy tracks tackle alienation and disappointing love stories, celebrity and the role of young women in society.
Our Friday Tonic series showcases emerging artists.
