Village Green Presents: Immersion

Part of Contemporary Edit

An evening of expansive music and visuals with live performances from three of the label’s genre-defying acts: CUTS, Ben Chatwin and Snow Palms.

Village Green is an independent label reshaping the landscape of minimalism, classical and electronic music.

CUTS is the musical project of composer and filmmaker Anthony Tombling Jr. His recent album A Gradual Decline, written in response to global political and environmental breakdown, weaves the sounds of melting ice and glacial movement directly into the music.

Tombling directed a series of films alongside this album, which form an integral part of the evening’s performance.

Composer and producer Ben Chatwin crafts dense, dark and daring compositions that are free from a traditional sense of structure and genre.

He performs from last year’s acclaimed albums Staccato Signals and Drone Signals, using analogue and modular synths alongside live strings.

David Sheppard first conceived Snow Palms, named after a painting by his late father depicting downtown Los Angeles in a freak blizzard, as a vehicle for evocative juxtapositions, pitching mallet instruments against chamber orchestra arrangements.

Now joined by Matt Gooderson, together they combine soaring synthscapes with spectral ambient textures and propulsive rhythms.
