Music for Strings and Harp

Part of Classical Season 2019/20

The mythical quest of Theseus to find and conquer the Minotaur is stirringly evoked by Schafer’s work for harp and string quartet.

Theseus, written in 1983 as a companion piece to the composer’s The Crown of Ariadne, brings the myth to life in captivating, dramatic style.

The work is paired with American bassist and composer Edgar Meyer’s Concert Duo for violin and double bass.

This short, free recital of chamber music is programmed by Heidi Krutzen, Principal Harp of the Philharmonia Orchestra, ahead of the Orchestra’s evening concert.
