Polari: Featuring Dustin Lance Black

The Oscar-winning film-maker, writer and social activist brings Hollywood sparkle to the LGBTQ+ literary salon’s stage, plus more sensational new commentaries on queer hearts and lives.

Dustin Lance Black appears in conversation with Polari founder and host, Paul Burston. Black’s screenplay for Milk, the 2008 biopic of politician and activist Harvey Milk starring Sean Penn, won an Oscar and two WGA Awards.

In an electric evening of literary greatness, Black is joined by authors Collin Kelley, Kelleigh Greenberg-Jephcott and Angela Chadwick, all reading from their latest works.

In 2018, Black received the Valentine Davies Award from the Writers Guild of America for his body of work. He was also a founding board member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which successfully led the federal cases for marriage equality in California and Virginia.

Black, who has repeatedly been named as one of the 50 most powerful LGBTQ+ people in America, is currently adapting Jon Krakauer’s book Under the Banner of Heaven for TV. He is developing Bayard, a biopic feature about esteemed civil rights organiser Bayard Rustin, and Lindbergh, a series following the tumultuous life of aviator Charles Lindbergh.

Polari is curated by Burston, described by Attitude magazine as ‘easily one of the most important commentators of his generation’.
