Fournier Trio Celebrates Its Tenth Anniversary

This event has been cancelled as we are currently closed due to the coronavirus crisis.

Piano trios by Shostakovich and Smetana and a new commission by Daniel Kidane are showcased by the formidable Fournier Trio.

'Over the years we have developed and grown a strong bond as a group. Our different personalities maintain a balanced dynamic and we never stop learning and appreciating each other.'

So says violinist Sulki Yu, who had a duo with pianist Chiao-Ying Chang before being introduced to cellist Pei-Jee Ng.

Beginning trio life with David Takeno as mentor, and studying intensively with Thomas Brandis as Chamber Music Fellows at the Royal Academy of Music, the Fournier Trio was successful at competitions in Trondheim and Hamburg, later winning The Parkhouse Award in 2013.

The trio’s first performance was in 2010 at Wolfson College, University of Oxford, which resulted in a residency where the trio curated its own programme.

This environment resulted in a Beethoven cycle in 2017, with a debut performance of the Beethoven Triple Concerto in Korea.

The trio has commissioned works from Timothy Salter, Gary Carpenter and Daniel Kidane, who was the first to write for the trio in its debut London recital at Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room.

The Fournier Trio looks forward to more recording projects, collaborations with composers and musicians in its next ten years.
