Janacek completed his String Quartet No.2, the passionate Intimate Letters, just months before he died.
The work was born out of the composer’s unrequited love for Kamila Stösslová, a woman nearly 40 years his junior who inspired many of his later works.
Here it is paired with one of Haydn’s most accomplished quartets, Op.20 No.6.
Enjoy a short, free recital of chamber music programmed by Benjamin Marquise Gilmore, Joint Concertmaster of the Philharmonia Orchestra, ahead of the Orchestra’s evening concert.
