This musical marvel is somehow constructed out of stops, bellows, pedals and pipes. It’s made of a dizzying combination of woods, metals, leather and electronics. How do these parts fit together? How can one organist play almost 8,000 pipes at once?
Each 90-minute session gets up close and hands-on with the king of instruments and includes an organ discovery workshop, guided behind-the-scenes organ tour and brief recital in Royal Festival Hall.
Each session can be tailored to fit your specific needs for upper KS1, KS2 or KS3, emphasising any of these themes:
- Science of sound and acoustics: how sound is made and travels
- Building blocks of music: pitch, rhythm, timbre, harmony, melody variations
- Music through the ages: how music and the instrument has developed across time
Workshops are led by Southbank Centre’s Organ Scholar or Organ Curator.
The total cost of Pipe Up Schools is £50.
Please note, these workshops are not available to book online. To book, please contact our group bookings team on 020 7960 4225 or firstname.lastname@example.org
