Epic Romance

Part of Classical Season 2019/20

Open your heart to music by Sibelius and Rachmaninoff with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

The forests of Finland extend to the Arctic Circle and beyond; the steppes of Russia stretch further than any eye can see.

There’s something of those vast landscapes in both of these great Romantic masterpieces – two epic journeys from the early years of the 20th century, by turns ardent, elemental and ravishingly tender, and both glowing with glorious melodies.

Ray Chen is soloist in Sibelius’ Violin Concerto – a violinist who redefines what it is to be a classical musician in the 21st century.

And then the remarkable young Finnish conductor Klaus Mäkelä plunges deep into Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony: expect this to be compelling.
