Ancient Roots, New Leaves

Part of Classical Season 2019/20

Preserving the ancient tradition of classical Persian music, Maestro Dariush Talai performs with young virtuoso musicians.

The selected musicians, among Iran’s most talented and promising, uphold the deep-rooted values and teachings of classical Persian music.

Ancient Roots, New Leaves is an embodiment of Maestro Talai’s dedication to the preservation, promotion and presentation of classical Persian music.

Maestro Talai is regarded as a key link in the chain of classical Persian music, one of the oldest oral music traditions in the world.

His artistic life spans over five decades and around the world.

As well as making a series of solo recordings on tar and sehtar, he has collaborated with leading Turkish, Arab, African and flamenco master musicians.

He has also lent his musical talents to a ballet by Maurice Béjart, and performed in concerts and recordings with Maestro Shahram Nazeri and Iran’s grand vocal maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian.

As well as a host of concerts and recordings, Maestro Talai has also published authoritative academic works on the intricate art of classical Persian instrumental and vocal music.
