Friday Lunch: Fergus Ireland Trio

Part of Friday Lunch

Do you like your jazz inventive and compelling? Hear a free lunchtime concert from a founding member of Kansas Smitty’s House Band with his trio.

Bassist Fergus Ireland, alto saxophonist Nathaniel Facey and drummer James Maddren have been playing together since 2013. Drawing on acoustic sounds from the classic tradition of saxophone, bass and drum outfits, the group incorporates modern-day rhythms, techniques and concepts.

They have honed their sound through informal sessions and gigs at grass-roots London venues, as well as concerts at acclaimed venues such as Ronnie Scott’s. In 2018 they released their first record with a limited run on Mondegreen Records. The album, titled Ferg Ireland Trio – Volume I, swiftly sold out.

Ireland has played with leading jazz musicians in the UK, including Soweto Kinch, Ruby Rushton and Nathaniel Facey, as well as for visiting US luminaries such as Johnny O’Neal (Art Blakey) and Leroy Jones.
