Hear effervescent classical guitar music from the quartet's new album, plus world premieres from composers Michael Finnissy, Laura Snowden and Stephen Goss.
Alongside repertoire from album Pluck, Strum and Hammer, Mela Guitar Quartet performs Carmen Fantasy by Steve Goss, as described by BBC Music Magazine: ‘This party-piece of the year achieves the impossible… flair, quick thinking and a feel for colour are everywhere… part satire, [it] cleverly deconstructs the opera and other composers’ Spanish fantasies.’
The virtuosic Bacchanale and Pluck, Strum, and Hammer are joined by the inventive, colourful Australian piece Opals, by Phillip Houghton, and three wonderfully energetic, heartfelt Brazilian works complete the programme.
Founded in 2015, the quartet has been 2016 International Guitar Foundation Young Artists and 2018 – 2019 Park Lane Group young artists. In 2017 they released their debut album on Naxos Records, Stephen Dodgson: Guitar Chamber Works, and in December 2018 released their second album, Pluck, Strum, and Hammer.
