Rufus & Martha Wainwright's A Not So Silent Night

Feel the holiday spirit at the Wainwright family party, where Rufus and Martha pay tribute to their singer-songwriter mother Kate McGarrigle.

The siblings return to Royal Festival Hall after the first tribute show to McGarrigle was staged here on 12 June 2010, as part of Richard Thompson’s Meltdown festival.

McGarrigle had performed her final concert a year before, in December 2009, in an emotional family Christmas show at Royal Albert Hall with more than 5,000 people in attendance. This show at Royal Festival Hall marks the 10th anniversary of Rufus and Martha's mother's final show.

In a celebration of family, love and music, Rufus, Martha and special guests bring their very own subversive twist of folk glamour to the holiday season.

The profit from this concert goes towards the Kate McGarrigle Fund, supporting sarcoma research, and a music therapy programme for cancer patients to be launched by Martha Wainwright in conjunction with Stand Up To Cancer Canada.

Rufus and Martha, along with many who are working on this show, are donating their services.

Bringing together some of the UK’s finest singers and musicians, the McGarrigle/Wainwright family clan present a one-night-only celebration.

Dan Gillespie Sells, of The Feeling and creator of the West End hit Everybody's Talking About Jamie, is Music Director.

Special experience tickets
Only the Run-through Experience (£350) and the Rehearsal Space and Run-through Experience (£695) include a ticket to the show. For all other experiences, tickets need to be purchased separately. You can purchase multiple experiences for the complete Wainwright holiday experience.

Rehearsal Space and Run-through Experience: £695 (includes a ticket to the show, tickets from £100 price band – limited availability)
Join Rufus, Martha and the family in the rehearsal space in the days prior to the show for a truly intimate, magical experience. During the two-hour session, see songs rehearsed, harmonies and back-up vocals tried out, and band arrangements developed. There is an opportunity for pictures during one of the rehearsal breaks.

This experience also includes the full soundcheck/run-through on the day of the show (see below for details).

Run-through Experience: £350 (includes a ticket to the show, tickets from £100 price band – limited availability)
Join, Rufus, Martha, the family and special guests to see the magic of the show being put together at the run-through and soundcheck on the day of the show. Those who cannot attend for the full event are welcome to arrive halfway through. There is a very quick photo option at the end of the run-through with Rufus and Martha, as the stars need to get festive and ready for the show.

Choir Experience: £125 (does not include a ticket to the show – limited availability)
Join Rufus, Martha, the family and the special guests on stage for ‘Proserpina’, the evening’s poignant closing song.

In the weeks before her final live appearance, Kate wrote ‘Proserpina’. The Roman goddess Proserpina spends half of each year with her husband Pluto, the god of the Underworld, and the other half in the natural world, bringing spring with her. Each year, her mother Ceres mourns the loss of her daughter to the Underworld. The song reflects the tragic circumstances around the premature birth of Martha’s son in London that prevented her from travelling home to her dying mother.

Aftershow Party Experience: £200 (does not include a ticket to the show – limited availability)
Join Rufus, Martha, the family and special guests for the exclusive aftershow cocktail celebration. Get a chance to congratulate them personally after the show in a more relaxed environment than at the stage door.
