Britten: Saint Nicolas / Haydn: Nikolaimesse

Part of Classical Season 2019/20

By turns refined and fierce, delicate and exuberant, Britten’s score is filled with colour.

Originally conceived as a community project, Britten’s Saint Nicolas includes moments of fun, terror, suspense and togetherness.

With its talent for storytelling, Crouch End Festival Chorus, complements Britten’s work with Haydn’s vibrant Nikolaimesse.

CEFC also presents three of the best entries from their recent From the heart competition, including a second performance of the winning entry by Ian Lawson.

The competition, marking the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth, asked composers to set words inscribed by Beethoven at the beginning of his Missa Solemnis manuscript (‘From the heart – may it return to the heart!’).
