The Musicians' Company Concerts 2019

Part of Classical Season 2018/19

From a Romantic sonata to a world premiere, hear an eclectic programme pairing saxophone from Lewis Banks and bassoon from Justin Sun.

With accompaniment from Marianna Abrahamyan and Eleanor Kornas, the concert offers a mix of repertoire from Ravel and Saint-Saëns to James MacMillan and Graham Fitkin. Hear the world premiere of Scottish composer Jay Capperauld's Egalitaire, commissioned by Lewis Banks with funding from the Musicians' Company, and Gene Koshinski's Pocket Grooves for bassoon and ethnic percussion played by Sun and Jake Brown.

Australian-born Justin Sun has performed as guest principal with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and is currently on trial for the position of Principal Bassoon with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Aarhus Symphony Orchestra.

Lewis Banks studied at the Royal Conservatoire. He has appeared with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra as soloist in Jacques Ibert’s Concertino da Camera, conducted by Jean-Claude Picard. Banks plays regularly with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
