Ingrid Fliter: Beethoven & Schumann

Part of Classical Season 2019/20

Encounter Beethoven and Schumann’s most personal musical statements in Ingrid Fliter’s charismatic performance.

This concert’s all-Beethoven first half features two contrasting sonatas from a period when the composer began to develop his own revolutionary approach to the genre.

He broke away from the accepted conventions of the form, creating music of power and emotional appeal that was unprecedented in its day.

As we can take from the title alone, Schumann’s mercurial Symphonic Studies encapsulates the composer’s ambitious, full-blooded approach to writing for the piano.

Expansive in scale, it is at the same time an intimate revelation.

Ingrid Fliter’s performances of the great Classical and Romantic masterworks have earned her considerable critical acclaim.
