Beethoven's Missa Solemnis

Part of Classical Season 2019/20

Beethoven’s choral masterpiece is given wings by Crouch End Festival Chorus, alongside a competition-winning choral piece.

‘From the heart – may it return to the heart!’

These words of Beethoven’s, written on the front of his score, sum up the profundity of this greatest of choral works, the Missa Solemnis.

The dramatic score conjures up images of angels hovering, and even an impending invasion.

As a prelude to this great work, the chorus premieres Ian Lawson’s winning piece from CEFC's recent competition that invited composers to create a short a cappella setting of Beethoven’s words.
