The dynamic piano duo Julian Jacobson and Mariko Brown present a programme contrasting 20th-century composers Ligeti, Bernstein and Satie with Mozart.
Ligeti's ‘Bewegung’, from his Three Pieces for Two Pianos, is a cool, atmospheric opener, followed by Mozart's great F major duet Sonata of 1786, the miraculous year that also produced The Marriage of Figaro among many other masterpieces.
Satie's ‘pear-shaped’ pieces – in reality seven and not three – feature on the duo's highly praised recent recording. John Musto's brilliant transcription of Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story concludes the pair's wide-ranging programme.
