Missa Solemnis

Part of Classical Season 2018/19

See the Bach Choir performs Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Sir Richard Stilgoe as compère.

Beethoven’s mighty setting of the Mass is one of the grandest and greatest choral works ever composed, taking listeners on a profound spiritual journey through turbulent doubt to ultimate redemption. The Bach Choir is joined by the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment for what is regarded as one of Beethoven's most personal and heartfelt works.

Richard Stilgoe has spent fifty years as a performer and writer in all forms of the performing arts. He has frequently appeared on television (Nationwide, That’s Life) and on stage. He wrote lyrics for Cats, Starlight Express and The Phantom of the Opera and his broadcasting work has earned him several awards.
