Find out how the Great American Songbook sounds with a retro-futurist twist from the Echo Prize-winning Swiss jazz singer and her trio.
Appearing with her Berlin-based group Speak Low, featuring saxophonist Otis Sandsjö and bassist Petter Eldh, Lucia Cadotsch takes a European approach to the American Standards. The trio’s sound is informed by remix culture, free jazz and their appreciation for classic vocal records.
While Cadotsch challenges all common vocal jazz traditions, Sandsjö’s sax takes on the timbre of vintage synths and Eldh’s bass brings to mind the kicks and claps of an 808 drum machine.
Together, they bring the bittersweet repertoire of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Abbey Lincoln and Dinah Washington vividly alive for a new generation of listeners, as well as for veteran music lovers in search of fresh treatments of these timeless songs.
