Southbank Centre’s Book Podcast: Brett Anderson - Afternoons with the Blinds Drawn
As part of London Literature Festival 2019, Suede frontman Brett Anderson joined Miranda Sawyer in conversation about his second volume of memoirs, Afternoons with the Blinds Drawn, the book he’d previously said he would never write.
Recorded live at Queen Elizabeth Hall this podcast sees Anderson discuss how he found therapy in the process of writing this book, and the crucial differences between his person and his persona. He also looks in detail at his music career; the positives and pressures that came from Suede’s glowing critical reception from the music press, his feelings on Britpop, and the shocking moment that served as a wake-up call to his hedonistic lifestyle.
Regret is a word I use a lot in the book. In fact the first version of the book, my editor did say that you’ve got to find a new word for regret; you need to look in a thesaurus.
