One of the central strands to the 2018 London Literature Festival was The Odyssey, Homer’s epic poem about Odysseus’ long and eventful journey home after the fall of Troy.
But with over 12,100 lines it is known as an epic for a reason. And we know London people are busy people, so - we wondered - could we perhaps condense the story somehow? Could we even make it as short as a minute? Well, it turned out the answer was not quite, but we came close.
Here, with the aid of some very fine and detailed animation, is The Odyssey in (just over) a minute.
Southbank Centre is the home of literature and spoken word events in the UK, and the venue for London Literature Festival and Poetry International. Throughout the year we host talks, discussions, readings and more featuring bestselling authors, award-winning poets and inspirational writers.
