On Thursday 6 December, 2018 we hosted a very special event here in Queen Elizabeth Hall as Lafawndah’s Honey Colony mixtape came to life here on our stage. The Honey Colony started life as a mixtape, put together by Lafawndah, to showcase forward-thinking music.
A year on, and that mixtape has evolved into a decentralised live performance that is equal parts celebration and provocation, designed to upend the relationship between performer and audience. Joining Lafawndah for the live imagining of The Honey Colony are Tirzah (featuring Coby Sey and Mica Levi), Bonnie Banane and Elheist.
To help give you a flavour of this incredible musical experience, we’ve pulled together a couple of playlists, starting with this one of tracks from French electronic artist Bonnie Banane.
Also on The Honey Colony bill is South East London rapper Elheist, who earlier this year released Matter of Fact/Not That Easy with producer Haitch. Ahead of the 6 December gig, Elheist put together this short mixtape of tracks.
More than just the home of Meltdown. Every year Southbank Centre presents live contemporary music gigs and performances that blur genre boundaries and showcase the best new sounds from across the globe.
