Love is in the air at Southbank Centre this Summer, as the Festival of Love is once again in full swing. The festival celebrates love in it’s many forms through music, art and dance, with half of the events being completely free
Since 1951, Southbank Centre has been a place where people meet, fall in love and nurture their relationships. Although some of our arts venues are closed for refurbishment, the Southbank Centre Archive Studio is keeping the memories and the magic moments that have happened in those buildings very much alive this Summer by sharing some of the real-life love stories they’ve collected over time - and asking for a few more too!
The Archive Studio has received a huge number of stories over the years, from memories of first dates to first loves to proposals and tales of reconnecting with old friends. A snapshot of those stories are below.
In the spirit of love, The Archive Studio is also hosting a special Date Night on 28 August where couples can take a romantic evening looking through the collection and to uncover some of the many treasures of Southbank Centre through the years. Tickets are available by application.Did you meet your first love or true love in Queen Elizabeth Hall or Hayward Gallery?
Share your stories at the Archive Studio throughout the Festival of Love, or tell us about them using #SCLetTheLightIn and we may feature them in a future blog!See a handful of highlights from the Festival of Love so far, below:
