100 years since suffrage: women’s rights and gender equality timeline

Wednesday, March 7, 2018 - 16:58

February 1918, and after years of prominent campaigning from suffragettes and suffragists, the Representation of the People Act is passed by UK Parliament, granting votes to some women. Far from the end of the fight for equality, it was merely the beginning.

Over the subsequent hundred years the campaign for women’s rights has continued, driven forwards by inspirational women who have overcome hurdles and broken down barriers for the next generation. To celebrate the centenary of women's suffrage, and to recognise the achievements of these groundbreaking women, we’ve put together this interactive timeline, celebrating key milestones from the last century in the push for women’s rights and gender equality in the UK.

WOW - Women of the World took place at Southbank Centre from 7-11 March, 2018 with hundreds of talks, events, and workshops for all ages.
